Handling an insurance claim can be tedious for those unfamiliar with the process. It starts with simply filing a claim which is not difficult, but becomes more cumbersome as you move through the process. Next, an adjuster will come to inspect your home. Unless you plan to walk the roof and house with this person, all observations will be from the insurance point of view, from where the test squares are drawn to whether or not something qualifies as “damage.” Then, if approved, you will receive a detailed estimate that, to the untrained eye, reads like another language. Lastly, you will be left with the daunting task of choosing a reputable contractor unless your carrier has a preferred vendor list (Zenith is on many preferred vendor lists.) Zenith recommends these 3 easy steps to simplify and protect your interest throughout this process:
- Have a Zenith-certified inspector visit the site to determine if there is enough damage to make a claim, or in many cases may only require a simple repair or maintenance.
- Let Zenith help the adjuster to identify the storm damage and what it will take to repair your home and make your property whole again. Items missed in the beginning can lead to lengthy supplemental claims down the road, causing the whole process to take longer. (Your adjuster will be knowledgeable in most areas but may not be an expert in all areas.)
- Upon approval, the Zenith staff member will review the insurance documents and sit down with you personally to make sure you fully understand the proposed insurance settlement.
